A nation is only secure when it is built on honesty, truth, and virtue. In my opinion, this nation is far from secure.
I created this chaotic composition of red, white, and blue to represent our nation - to reflect the chaos in the streets. The black stars represent the Black people who have gone to heaven. I want to recognize the Black people that died for this country in the struggle for equality - the ones who died in the pursuit of happiness, safety, and comfort. They deserved respect - to feel seen and acknowledged.
I chose the quote because Fredrick Douglass was like a founding father of this country. He was a friend, correspondent, and confidant of Abraham Lincoln.
